Workflow steps.
Every step a workflow can include, what it does, and who powers it — in one view.

Billable steps
Carousel charges by billable step. A billable step is any verification an applicant completes in a workflow — identity, KYB, financial, credit, background, court & eviction, fraud & compliance screening, e-signature, or payment. Only completed steps count toward usage; the full fee breakdown lives in Pricing and usage.
Who pays: the business or the applicant
Every workflow can be configured with one of two payment structures:
| Structure | How it works | Who owns the results |
|---|---|---|
| Business pays | Your business covers the verification costs. Applicants complete the workflow at no charge. | Results are delivered to your business as part of the application. |
| Applicant pays | The applicant prepays for all the verifications they are about to undergo (the Applicant payment step). If there are issues with their workflow, they can request a refund. | The applicant owns their verified profile and chooses whether to share it with the requester — or with others. |
Fees per step — per-step pricing for every billable step is broken down in Pricing and usage.
